Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What do I do if my local Western Dental office is closed?  If your local office is closed, we do have a small number of emergency offices open for emergencies only.

What is an emergency need?   It is ultimately determined by one of our Dentists.  For example, if you have an emergency such as:

  • If you have severe pain, swelling, an infection and/or uncontrollable bleeding
  • If you have had a recent accident that has hurt teeth and/or gums

What is NOT considered an emergency?

  • Check-up exams, x-rays and cleanings
  • Routine gum therapy
  • Orthodontic treatment or adjustment
  • Scheduled fillings, implants and crowns that can be postponed
  • Extractions

I think my need is an emergency.  How do I get an appointment in the office?  To determine if your dental need can be addressed in our office, please call (866) 887-7591.

  • If appropriate, you will be referred to our on-call Dentist triage team by phone
  • The tele-triage Dentist may then refer you to one of our emergency hub offices for a live consultation with a Dentist

Once I get to the office, if the Dentist thinks I have an emergency case, what are my options?

  • If the Dentist thinks you have a life-threatening emergency, they will immediately refer you to an emergency room or emergency provider who is able to treat you
  • If the Dentist thinks you have a non-life-threatening emergency, they will discuss options with you in person.

Can I have a walk-in appointment at an emergency hub?  No.  Due to Coronavirus safety precautions, you will not be able to walk-in to an emergency hub without an appointment.  You must first call the emergency hotline.

Will I be able to be treated at the office?   The Doctor in the office will decide on a case-by-case basis whether your issue can be addressed in the office or if they need to refer you to an alternative provider and/or emergency room.  Otherwise, they may recommend postponing your treatment, given the current coronavirus restrictions and care guidelines.

Why are you putting these rules in place?  Western Dental’s purpose is to protect our Dentists, dental teams, patients and the community from the transmission of COVID-19.  We also want to prevent the unnecessary use of the resources (e.g. specialized masks) that are in very short supply in our country.
