You can switch during the Annual Enrollment Period (Oct 15–Dec 7) or under special circumstances.
If you’re not eligible for Medicare, you still have options. Western Dental accepts many insurance plans and also offers financing options to help you get the care you need.
For most general dentistry services like exams and cleanings, no referral is needed. You can book an appointment directly with Western Dental. If you do need to see a specialist, such as an oral surgeon, we’ll help coordinate the referral.
Yes. Many Western Dental locations in California and Arizona are in-network with major Medicare Advantage plans including SCAN Health Plan, UnitedHealthcare, Humana, Anthem Blue Cross, and Blue Shield of California. Participation varies by location — call us or book online and we’ll verify your specific plan before your visit.
Many Medicare Advantage dental benefits do not cover implants but some may. Coverage typically focuses on preventive and basic restorative care such as exams, cleanings, fillings, and crowns. If implants are a priority, we can review your plan details and walk you through alternative treatment and financing options.
Most plans cover preventive services (exams, cleanings, X-rays) often at $0 copay, and basic restorative care (fillings, extractions) at a plan-specific copay. Major services like crowns, dentures, and root canals are covered by many plans but may require preauthorization and carry a higher copay. Dental implants and cosmetic procedures are often not covered. We’ll verify your specific plan before any work begins.
Bring your Medicare Advantage member ID card and a valid photo ID. If you have a secondary insurance plan, bring that card as well. Our team will handle benefit verification and walk you through any expected costs before treatment starts.
You have a few options. You can use our financing options to cover out-of-pocket costs, or if you’re in an enrollment window, you may be able to switch to a plan with stronger dental benefits. The Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 through December 7 each year. We can provide a treatment estimate to help you compare plans before switching.
