What Is Emergency Dentistry?

Emergency dentistry focuses on diagnosing and treating urgent dental problems that require immediate attention to relieve pain, stop bleeding, treat infection, or save a damaged tooth. These issues often happen unexpectedly and can’t wait for a routine appointment. Emergency dental care addresses conditions such as severe toothaches, broken or knocked-out teeth, dental abscesses, lost restorations, and oral injuries. The goal is to stabilize the problem quickly, prevent further complications, and restore your comfort and oral health as soon as possible.

Dental problems that require emergency care

If something happens to your teeth, acting quickly gives us the best possible chance to help. Our highly trained dentists offer exceptional emergency dental care to patients throughout Arizona and California. Call us if you’re experiencing any of these dental problems:

When to Go to the ER vs. an Emergency Dentist

Visit an Emergency Dentist for urgent dental issues such as severe toothaches, cracked or broken teeth, knocked-out teeth, lost fillings or crowns, dental abscesses, or swelling related to a tooth infection. An emergency dentist can diagnose the problem, relieve pain, and provide same-day treatment to save or restore your tooth. Go to the Emergency Room (ER) if you experience uncontrolled bleeding, severe facial trauma, difficulty breathing or swallowing, significant swelling affecting your airway, or any life-threatening injury. For medical emergencies, call 911 immediately. When in doubt, call our office — we can help guide you to the right care quickly.

The x-ray tech, Felicity, was super polite and made sure to explain every step of the process while taking my X-rays. Dr. Wesley Chung was excellent. I came in to have a filling that had fallen out replaced, and he made sure I felt absolutely no pain during the procedure. He was incredibly quick, efficient, and very kind throughout the entire visit.

I didn’t have an appointment and came in as a walk in keke assisted me in getting approval from her manager zoe to see me same day i was in a lot of pain and they accommodated me pulled my tooth and zoe gave me a implant payment plan i was very pleased with this location.

Insurance & Financing Options

Western Dental accepts many major dental insurance plans and will help you understand what’s covered. If you’re eligible, we welcome Medi-Cal (California) and Medicaid plans, including AHCCCS in Arizona, and our team can help verify your benefits before treatment begins. If you don’t have insurance — or need help covering out-of-pocket costs — flexible financing options through CareCredit and Sunbit can help make emergency dental care more affordable. We also provide support for eligible patients using workers’ compensation for dental injuries. Have questions about coverage? Call (800) 579-3783 and we’ll be happy to help.
